In this 4 week series, we will explore the foundation of this ballroom dance, as well as its application and benefits when applied to social dances.
As a former professional ballroom dancer, I am very excited to share what I've learned and all of the elements used from this genre to help me succeed as a professional in both Salsa and Bachata industries.
Just like social Latin dances, Rumba has its origins in Son Cubano and though its application is competitive in nature, there is much technique and clarity we can benefit from when learning this dance.
Week 1
We will go over the basic principles of International Rumba:
- With a slower tempo you will have more access to range of body movements and rhythms
- Proper understanding of weight transfer, mobility control to gain balance, stability, power and musicality

We will proceed applying the basic principles where you will be challenged with an intermediate and more artistic combination of movements allowing us to explore the expressive aspect of this dance.

- Sharpness
- Internal rotation
- Body movement variety
- Speed
